Ghamorean: Eon eschatos
28/11/08 || Lord K Philipson
If you fuckers only knew how much utter SHIT we get sent to Global Domination when it comes to albums and demos… Lemme put it like this: it’s more than Pamela Anderson gets from Tommy Lee in a year and she sure gets her fair share of shit from that douche. Then, every once in a while, a package comes in and there’s just something about it that makes you think “this has to be good”. There’s something about the look of the cd, the song titles or simply where the actual band is from. If they are from Zimbabwe – they will prolly suck the famous penis in all possible ways. If they are from Sweden – huge chance they are on to something good. This is the case with Gonorrhea (you must have seen that one fucken coming), a band hailing from the north of Sweden, namely Umeå (the one city responsible for Sweden’s mightiest festival House Of Metal).
Claiming to play blackened death metal (eh… which is exactly what they do) they make sure to rip’n‘tear all the way thru this piece, taking few prisoners. They obviously have alot of talent with some very nice guitar harmonies’n‘tricks, something I absolutely enjoy in my music. The production is fine but leaves you wishing for a bit more punch (especially the drums are in need of some Mike Tyson escapades) and brutality. It’s all crystal clear and all the instruments come thru fine, but yeah – a tad more brutal approach production-wise would do no harm to anyone into the brutal’n‘blackish side of things.
Opening up with a well made (but completely pointless) intro, “Eon eschatos” throws me into opener “Art of defiance”. Quite possibly the best track on the album so it’s a smart move to start this disc with it. Put the strongest shit first, continue with tunes almost as strong, put the boring ones in the middle (“Faustian winter”) and end the whole thing with some excellent Zyklon-esque/Testament influenced material (not to mention the beautiful outro). Yep, you guys got it covered to some extent and I can’t wait to hear more from you.
This is a solid release without a doubt. Blackened death metal with some groovy riffing all over the place.
I like it when my notion is correct, Ghamorean turned out to be a good band, just like I thought when I opened the package they sent to us. I need not say much more. Now send me a fucken shirt, size XXL.
7,5 House Of Metal festivals out of 10.
